Introduce to Crafting

Disciplines of Hand are crafting classes in ARR. They are fun to play and give you some peaceful time after the battle. Although it is optional to have a crafting class, it will save your money and even make money in long term.

The Benefits of Crafting

ARR has a unique and complex crafting system. Many players found the crafting are fun. Some are simply leveling up the crafting classes because they are there. Obviously crafting is to make weapons and armors. You can get similar if not better weapons and armors from dungeons. As of now, there is no absolute needs to level up crafting class for end-game gears. Then why should you play craft classes?

  • Crafting helps you enjoying ARR more. Leveling Up is relatively easier in ARR. If your goal is simply to reach end-game, you will miss a lot of fun in the game.
  • Crafting can save and make gils for you.
  • In order to do Relic Weapons quest, you will need to make or buy Level 50 Materia-Enhanced weapon. Having a Level 50 crafting class certainly helps.

Crafting Basics

There are 8 crafting classes in ARR: Carpenter (CRP), Blacksmith (BSM), Armor (ARM), Goldsmith (GSM), Leatherworker (LTW), Weaver (WEA), Alchemist (ALC) and Culrarian (CUL). Obviously each class makes different weapons and armors. They have many same skills and some unique skills (which can be shared also).

The goal of the crafting is to create High-Quality items within limited material durability. Each item has durability and difficult depending on level. For example, xxx is a Level 5 item. The durability is 40 and difficulty is 70. Each time you use a Synthesis action, it will make some progress. Once the progress bar is full, you made the item.

To improve the quality of the item, you will have to use as many Touch actions as possible before it is complete. As there is limited durability, some actions help you to recover the durability. Most of touch and recovery actions requires Crafting Points (CP). You can increase the CP by equip crafting accessories such as Earning, Rings, etc. There is 3 skills can recover CP as well.

Crafting Stats

As a DoH, there are 2 important stats:

  • Craftsmanship: Affects the amount of the progress for each Synthesis action.
  • Control: Determines the amount of quality improvement for each Touch action.

The stats are increased when you are leveling up. Crafting gears such as Clothes, Gloves give bonus Craftsmanship and Control as well.

Cross Class Skills

Of course, you can choose which crafting classes to level up. My advice is ALL or NONE. By leveling up all crafting classes, you can make raw materials yourself. Upon completing class quests, you will be rewarded with Shards. You properly never need to gather shards until high level. The most important reason is Cross-Class-Skills. You should at least level up some crafting classes to level 15 to have access to some important cross-class-skills. Below are some important skills in my opinion:

  • Hasty Touch (CUL 15). 50% chance to improve quality without CP.
  • Careful Synthesis (WVR 15). Standard Synthesis has 100% efficiency and 90% success rate. Careful Synthesis has 90% efficiency and 100% success rate. For most items, 100% efficiency on progress is not required. Careful Synthesis allows you to use all durability without worry about failure.
  • Rumination (CRP 15). Removes Inner Quiet effect and restores CP proportional to the number of times control was increased.

Basic Crafting Sequence

In order to master ARR crafting, you properly need to spend a lot of time to study the probability. The goal is to have as many Touch as possible before completing Synthesis. Here is an example for making basic material such as Ignot. Assume you have 260 CPs and the material can be completed using one Careful Synthesis:

  1. Inner Quiet (18 CP): Always start with Inner Quiet for control bonus
  2. Steady Hand (22 CP): 20% increased success for next 5 steps. In other words, all Standard Touch will be 100%.
  3. Standard Touch (32 CP)
  4. Standard Touch (32 CP)
  5. Standard Touch (32 CP)
  6. Master’s Mend (92 CP): Recover Durability to 40.
  7. Standard Touch (32 CP)
  8. Rumination: Restore CP based Inner Quiet stacks. As we have 4 stacks, it will recover 39 CPs.
  9. Basic Touch (18 CP)
  10. Basic Touch (18 CP)
  11. Careful Synthesis

If you do not have enough CPs, you can use Basic/Hasty Touch to replace Standard Touch. In this way, you will get better quality and more EXPs. If you need 2 or more Careful Synthesis, you can simply remove 1 or more Touch action.

This example give very consistent output. However, it is not most cost-effective way when crafting high level items. Please refer to our Intermediate and Advanced crafting guides.


Macros helps you making basic materials and in batch job. However, you should perform the action manually when you make high level item. Below is the macro for the basic crafting sequence above.

Leveling Up


It is easy to level up prior to Level 15. After Level 15, it requires some grinding but it is still relatively easy. Most players gave up when at around Level 30 when grinding become painful and impossible. In fact, the secret is something called Charity Tradecraft Leve. This type of Leve allows you turn-in the items three times using one Leve allowance. If you turned in all HQ items, you will be rewarded 200% more EXPs (i.e 9X EXP).

Please note that not all Tradecraft Leve are Triples. You will need to look for Leve with the special sign as shown.

Charity Leve may not always cost-effective when you have many Leve allowance. For single-turn-in Leve, you just need to make a HQ item. You should choose appropriate Leve depending on your situation.

Grand Company Supplies & Provisions

Once you joined a Grand Company, you can turn-in Grand Company supplies and provisions once a day in exchange for EXPs and company seals. You should try to complete these tasks everyday.

Tradecraft Leve

The Charity Tradecraft Leves are available starting from Level 20. You can start preparing materials before that or while waiting for Leve allowance. As you will get bonus EXP for HQ items, you should always be doing lower level Leve as you will have higher chance getting HQ items. In addition to Charity Leve, there are 2 other types of Leves: Constancy for delivering in the same area; Ingenuity for delivering to a different area.


  • Grand Company Engineering Manual gives 50% EXP bonus. Consider doing crafting in batch and use the Engineering Manual.
  • Many foods (e.g. Raw Oyster) give control bonus and 3% EXP boost.
